Deffet Group, Inc. is pleased to have been retained by United Methodist Communities to conduct an executive search for a Chief Executive Officer. 


United Methodist Communities (UMC), based in Neptune, New Jersey, is a faith-based, not-for-profit, multi-site senior living and affordable housing provider. UMC owns and operates a full range of accommodations including four full service communities, five affordable housing communities, and three locations for HomeWorks, a program that provides care from certified home health aides. Living options include assisted living, elder care, hospice and palliative care, independent living, long-term care, memory support, rehabilitation, and respite care. UMC is also in the process of gaining approval for building Avandell at Holmdel, an assisted living village that will serve the next generation of living and care for those with dementia. Serving nearly 1,190 seniors throughout its nine communities and employing approximately 850 associates, the organization has annual revenue of $76.3 million.


Accountable to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of UMC. (S)he develops cooperative relationships with UMC’s board, associates, residents, and external organizations to improve the lives of all those served. The CEO is primarily responsible for strategic planning, operations, fiscal accountability and financial management, marketing/public relations, human resources, compliance, growth, philanthropy, and volunteer management.


The successful candidate for this position will have a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field of study as well as five to ten years of management experience in a Life Plan Community or related senior living field. COO or CEO experience is preferred. The ability to obtain a Nursing Home Administrator’s license in the State of New Jersey is also preferred, but not required. The finalist will be a skilled and articulate oral and written communicator who presents a positive professional presence and is strongly committed to associate growth and development, customer satisfaction, and the concepts and practices of continuous improvement.
