This problem-solving approach will be presented to help reduce the intensity\, frequency\, or occurrence of challenges. This will also help develop better communication skills when working with people living with dementia by emphasizing the value of empathetic and supportive communication. The overall goal is to reduce or minimize unproductive conversa-tions and resistive behaviors by using effective verbal and physical skills. It will also focus on helping develop better observational skills to recognize and intervene effectively when behavioral challenges occur. The session will empha-size the value of matching helping behaviors to the person’s needs and retained abilities to promote a sense of control and self-direction. Grading and providing helping behaviors based on the person’s abilities and needs will assist in fos-tering positive interactions during care activities rather than struggles. \nThis session will include:\n1. List of six factors that may be used to determine what may be contributing to ‘challenging behaviors’\n2. Discuss the value of knowing the person and their histo-ry in effective communication efforts.\n3.
