These services are coordinated and provided by an interdisciplinary team of professionals in a community-based center and in their homes. PACE helps participants delay or avoid long-term nursing home care. \nDuring the webinar\, PACE provider Lisa Zavorski\, Executive Director of LIFE St. Francis\, a PACE in Bordentown\, will present an overview of the PACE model\, describe how it differentiates from other managed care models and explain why this program should be expanded throughout New Jersey. Moderating will be Meagan Glaser\, Vice President of LeadingAge New Jersey & Delaware\, in Hamilton. \nZavorski was appointed Executive Director of LIFE St. Francis in Bordentown\, a subsidiary of St. Francis Medical Center and a member of Trinity Health\, in 2017. She worked at St. Francis Medical Center for 33 years and transitioned to the hospital’s PACE program in 2012. During her tenure with LIFE St. Francis\, Zavorski has held various leadership roles\, including Director of Quality and Compliance as well as Center Director. She is the recipient of the 2015 National Pace Association (NPA) Judy Baskins Volunteer Leadership Award. \nPrior to joining LeadingAge New Jersey & Delaware\, Glaser was the New Jersey State Deputy Director for the Drug Policy Alliance. There\, she led diverse coalitions in support of successful advocacy campaigns resulting in the enactment of landmark legislation. Glaser also served as the Director of Legislative Services for a New Jersey state assemblyman and completed an internship at the Princeton Public Affairs Group\, the largest government affairs firm in New Jersey. Glaser has more than a decade of policy advocacy\, government relations\, event planning\, project management and communications experience in the nonprofit sector. \nThe next webinar in the Programs and Innovations Series\, taking place in April\, will cover “Health and Housing: Senior Living Program.” The next in the Technology in Aging Services Series of webinars will address “What’s Happening Now and What Does the Future Hold.” Details will be available at a later date. \n#    #    # \nAbout Parker Health Group\, Inc. \nParker Health Group\, Inc. is a nonprofit\, New Jersey-based aging services organization with over 111 years’ experience that is committed to empowering older Americans. SUMMARY:Using A Positive Approach to Dementia Care
DESCRIPTION:LeadingAge New Jersey & Delaware is proud to partner with LeadingAge Kentucky Foundation for:\nUsing A Positive Approach to Dementia Care \nProgram Description:\nCoping With Challenging Situations in Dementia Care\nThe session is designed to help care partners better under-stand why the person they are trying to help may at times exhibit ‘challenging behaviors.’ It will focus on looking be-yond the disease to recognize other possible factors. This problem-solving approach will be presented to help reduce the intensity\, frequency\, or occurrence of challenges. This will also help develop better communication skills when working with people living with dementia by emphasizing the value of empathetic and supportive communication. The overall goal is to reduce or minimize unproductive conversa-tions and resistive behaviors by using effective verbal and physical skills. It will also focus on helping develop better observational skills to recognize and intervene effectively when behavioral challenges occur. The session will empha-size the value of matching helping behaviors to the person’s needs and retained abilities to promote a sense of control and self-direction. Grading and providing helping behaviors based on the person’s abilities and needs will assist in fos-tering positive interactions during care activities rather than struggles. \nThis session will include:\n1. List of six factors that may be used to determine what may be contributing to ‘challenging behaviors’\n2. Discuss the value of knowing the person and their histo-ry in effective communication efforts.\n3. Describe & use empathetic & supportive communication techniques when interacting with a person living with Dementia.\n4. Identify the degree of involvement the person with de-mentia is experiencing\n5. Discriminate between helping at the ‘just right’ level and neglect or ‘taking over’ \nAgenda:\nTuesday\, July 21\, 2020 \nRegistration/Dial In ………………… 7:30 AM – 8:00 AM \nProgram ……………………………… 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM \nLunch ……………………………….. 12:00 PM – 12:40 PM \nProgram ……………………………… 12:40 PM – 3:30 PM \nPresenter:\nTeepa Snow\nPositive Approach to Care\n \nTeepa Snow is one of the world’s leading advocates and educators for anyone living with dementia.  Teepa’s philosophy is reflective of her education\, work experience\, medical research\, and first-hand caregiving experiences.
