SUMMARY:Dining Assistant Train-the-Trainer (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:LeadingAge New Jersey\, NJHA and the Health Care Association of New Jersey (HCANJ) are pleased to announce that we have scheduled a train-the-trainer education program for the dining assistant curriculum that has been verbally approved by the New Jersey Department of Health (DOH).  DOH has given us approval to move forward with the train-the-trainer program in which they will be a participant. \nThe dining assistant curriculum was designed by a clinical team made up of members from LeadingAge New Jersey\, NJHA and HCANJ and is compliant with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Federal Tag F-811 and 42 CFR 432.160 related to the use of paid dining assistants in nursing homes. This will be the only NJDOH approved curriculum.  The federal regulations give each state the flexibility to allow nursing homes to use dining assistants to supplement the services of nursing staff if their use is consistent with state law\, and if the dining assistants successfully complete a state-approved training program. We have decided to use the term dining assistant\, rather than feeding assistant\, because we believe it is a term that is more aligned with person-centered care and resident dignity. \nThis program is intended to train the primary instructors of paid dining assistants in nursing homes. The primary instructor must be a registered nurse with previous long-term care experience and a current New Jersey license.  Ideally\, the curriculum would be taught with other team members such as a registered dietitian\, licensed physical\, speech\, and/or occupational therapist\, and/or a licensed social worker. \nRegistration Information\n\nContent will be the same for the webinar and in-person sessions.  There is NO fee but registration is required. \nTo register\, click here.

SUMMARY:LGBT Aging: Opportunities and Awareness
DESCRIPTION:LeadingAge New Jersey and the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) have teamed up with Assurant Learning & Performance Solutions\, LLC and SAGE\, the nation’s oldest and largest organization advocating for LGBT older adults to offer members a complimentary webinar on Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. \nThis webinar will focus on the following: \n\nMarketing and Census Benefits – There are at least 1.5 million LGBT people who are 65 and older; by 2030 that number is expected to reach 7 million. New Jersey currently has limited LGBT friendly housing options for older adults. Increasing your capacity and earning a SAGECare Credential will provide direct marketing opportunities for your organization.\nHealth Outcomes for LGBT Older Adults – Review of research on LGBT older adults\, including health outcomes and quality of life issues.\nRegulatory Implications – An overview of the nursing home Requirements of Participation (ROPs) that specifically address culturally competent care and protections for LGBT residents. A discussion of how these requirements can be used by other senior care organizations as guidelines.\n\n\nSAGECare Credentialing – Program and cost information on LGBT Aging Training that will result in being listed on the SAGE Website and the use of the SAGECare credential at your facility and on marketing materials.\n\nWe look forward to having you join us for this initial learning session which will serve as a springboard for additional opportunities for advancing our organizations’ role in serving older adults. \nThe Program is Complimentary but Registration is Required\nClick here to Register now!

This half day program will help communities’ administrators\, nurses\, social workers and others involved in the advance care planning understand the issues from different perspectives and provide practical strategies for more effective advance care planning. \nRegister here \n
