LeadingAge New Jersey Testifies on CNA Ratio Legislation
On May 18, 2018, President & CEO James W. McCracken testified before the Assembly Human Services Committee opposing Assembly Bill A-382, a bill that mandates certified nursing assistant (CNA) staffing ratios in nursing homes.
“I can say with confidence that our mission-driven members are committed to serving the highest quality care to their residents and share a common goal – work diligently to improve the quality of care,” said McCracken. “CNAs, without question, is one of the most important members of the health care team and plays an integral role in providing exceptional care and service. We have all heard the iteration of the phrase – Quality over Quantity – it’s the quality, not the quantity that matters. However, A-382, as written, does not address acuities, significant CNA shortages (approximately 1,800 vacancies in N.J.), or account for budget considerations.”
Sunni Herman, Executive Vice President & COO of the Jewish Home at Rockleigh, joined McCracken and testified. The bill was released and referred to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for further consideration.
