B-5: Intergenerational & Innovative: Unique University-Based-Retirement-Community Collaborations

NAB; HRCI – 1 Hour | Tuesday, June 4th. 1:45 PM – 2:45 PM

Session Description:

Senior living community relationships with universities have long been regarded as an important way an organization can embrace lifelong learning and create strong community connections, often through partnerships allowing community residents to attend classes or special lectures or performances by university members in the community. However, so much more can be realized through university partnerships. Especially now, as the senior living field needs to help develop tomorrows leaders and employees in almost every career track to consider the field attractive, it is essential to understand what unique opportunities can be established that benefit the senior living field and university priorities. Attendees will learn best practices and practical tips to help foster new, unique connections with universities that may already have a relationship with or hope to collaborate with. In this panel presentation, participants will learn about: ‘Spin In’ an experiential learning program to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship in the student community. The program utilizes University assets and partnerships to provide interdisciplinary teams of students with unique opportunities to solve real-world business problems within a real-world entrepreneurial start-up environment. The partnership provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn business research from professionals in our field, while Kendal benefits from the hard work and analysis students engage in. Together, the panel will help attendees define how they can best approach universities and carve out opportunities for leaders to participate.

Learning Objectives:

Outline best practices for creating a collaborative approach between academia, senior living organizations and industry experts.

Attain inspiration and skills to pursue ways to engage students in the field of senior living.

Use student resources to gain perspective on various business issues, including development, marketing and operations.
