F2: The New Jersey Law Against Discrimination in Housing

This continuing education program offers continuing education credit for Affordable Senior Housing Managers and Resident Service Coordinators to be submitted to HUD. Education covers federal/state senior affordable housing policy, ethical concerns, fair housing compliance, HUD Handbook training, financing green retrofits, supportive services, and solutions for aging properties and residents.
All New Jersey residents and those seeking housing have the right to an experience that is free from discrimination. This training will provide an overview of the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD) and review housing protections under the LAD. Through case studies and other interactive exercises, participants will examine topics including source of lawful income discrimination, reasonable accommodations, and assistance animals.

Speaker Information
Deputy Director, Education & Training Unit, NJ Division of Civil Rights
Scott Hirschfeld is the Deputy Director of DCR’s Education and Training Unit, where he develops educational programs on civil rights and anti-bias topics. Previously, Scott served as Senior Director of Education and Youth Engagement for UNICEF USA, Director of Curriculum and Training for the Anti-Defamation League, and Director of Education for GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network). In these roles, he managed the development of learning resources and programs on diversity, anti-bias, social justice, and global learning topics. Scott began his career in the New York City public school system, where he worked for fourteen years as an elementary and middle school teacher. Scott has an M.S. in Elementary Education and an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Bank Street College of Education.
