The purpose of this panel presentation is to provide leaders and funders with an overview of the current and projected nursing workforce shortages in NJ and to answer the “why” invest in transition into practice programs for RNs and LPNs. The New Jersey Collaborating Center for Nursing was legislated in 2002 to create a central repository for supply and demand data and to engage partners in seeking workforce solutions. Since 2013, NJCCN has been funded to support long term care, assisted living, and other sectors to help transition new nurses into the workforce. Background will be provided on outcomes and lessons learned from previous programs. These outcomes include: increased retention rates, nurse resident confidence and competence improved, preceptor selection and leader engagement. Academic/practice partnerships helped better prepare the new nurse along with providing resources to the facilities. An overview of the current state program along with the challenges and successes will be identified by a faculty member, site coordinator, and a nurse resident. Funding availability will be discussed.
