Disruption is defined as, “rapid change to an existing industry due to technological or other innovation.” As the senior living industry continues to evolve, much like other industries, disruption is inevitable. For executives, it might feel safer and easier to ignore any disruptions and carry on with business as usual. However, the best path is to embrace it and use it to drive innovation that will ultimately position the organization for future growth and success. In a time when providers are expanding their services beyond traditional independent living and care models to meet seniors’ needs, new challenges have emerged for how senior living executives can effectively support both staff and residents while remaining operational. This session will provide a glimpse into how the concept of “disruptive innovation” offers a critical opportunity to not only address these challenges but how it can also revolutionize the way senior living organizations deliver care and services to the aging population, ensuring their needs are met for long-term survival, while also creating efficiencies for staff. Through sharing best practices and real-world examples, the presenter will help senior living executives understand how to embrace innovation in their organizations and provide them with the tools and strategies needed to navigate their unique journey.
Learning Objectives
- Understand disruptive innovation and how to incorporate it into their business plans
- Recall examples of disruptive innovation in senior living and the benefits they provide for residents and staff
