Working with a board of trustees requires skill and knowledge about good governance. For new executives in aging services, or even for those who have been leaders for a while, understanding management of a board can be daunting. This program will bring forward expertise and lessons learned in the field to support executives in addressing the governance needs of their organizations.

During the session we will:

• Describe the fundamentals of nonprofit board governance including basic structures, decision making processes, reporting procedures and key roles and responsibilities.
• Identify how a committed and engaged board can be a great support for a new executive.
• Explain how a well-educated board will be a more effective board.
• Describe specific policies to adopt and actions to take to improve governance while learning methods to overcome challenges that may prevent progress.
