E5: Creating Community Connections That Count

In today’s competitive marketplace, it is important to create brand awareness and enhancement for your senior living organization. “Creating Community Connections That Count” will focus on techniques to develop relationships with community stakeholders to leverage collaborative opportunities and uniquely position your organization. The presenters will discuss how active participation in your local community through strategic networking and volunteerism will enhance success. Effective networking approaches will be examined with shared case studies. An interactive networking role play will be facilitated, emphasizing the importance of making connections using advanced communication skills. The speakers will show how networking by sharing ideas, common goals, and a sincere desire to improve your local community is the key to unlocking opportunities.The role of media connections will be discussed with tactics on building trust and securing coverage of events and pertinent topics. Presenters will share examples of positioning leaders as media resources to create a “give and take” relationship. Tips on pitching stories that are newsworthy and selecting the correct contact will be shared. The importance of follow-up on pitches and the difference between advertising content and public relations writing styles will be covered. To quote Zig Ziglar, “You can have everything you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” This basic principle is the foundation of creating community connections that count.

V.P. of Independent Living, Fellowship Community
Laura Long has been vice president of independent living for Fellowship Community for over 10 years. Prior to joining Fellowship Community, she was executive director of the Whitehall Area Chamber of Commerce. Laura has served on Boards throughout the Lehigh Valley and is currently the President of the Whitehall Rotary Club. She is a LeadingAge PA Fellows in Leadership Alumna, Class of 2022-2023. She was honored to be named as a 2022 Lehigh Valley Business Women of Influence award winner. In 2017, she became the Charter President of the Whitehall Area Rotary Club. Laura has her own business as a voice over artist with over 30 years of experience. She has been a QVC product spokesperson and hosted a local Lehigh Valley travel series. She is the author of the newly published book, “When Did I Become My Parents’ Parent”

Kelly Gould has served as vice president of marketing and development at Fellowship Community for over 11 years. She previously owned an advertising, marketing and public relations firm for 18 years, working with international, national and local clients. Kelly worked ten years as vice president of an advertising agency and spent five years with the Marketing Division of Xerox Corporation. She has been honored with the “Power of Print” Neographics Award, the Outstanding Achievement in Public relations Award from the PA Affiliate of the American Diabetes Association, and Addy Award from the local chapter of the American Advertising Association and the Alumnae Award from Cedar Crest College. Kelly is chair of the LeadingAge PA Communications Affinity Group and serves on the Workforce Boards Lehigh Valley Youth Council. She enjoyed serving the community on numerous Boards of Directors including the American Marketing Associations, the American Diabetes Associations and ArtsQuest
